BONHAM, Texas - A 27-year-old Bonham man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a child, according to the Fannin County District Attorney's Office.
On July 29, the Fannin County District Attorney's Office secured the prison sentence against Trevor Wayne Brown before the Honorable Judge Christina Tillett.
As part of the plea agreement, Brown received a lifetime protective order prohibiting contact with the victim, must register as a sex offender for life and waived his right to appeal.
The case began on March 19, 2026, when Bonham Police Department officers responded to a report of a sexual assault.
Investigators determined Brown, who lived in the same apartment complex as the victim, had befriended the minor and communicated through a social media platform. Authorities said those conversations eventually led to Brown engaging in inappropriate sexual contact with the child.
Following the initial investigation, the Fannin County Children's Advocacy Center conducted a forensic interview that provided additional evidence in the case.
Lead investigator Detective Jon McCann obtained multiple search warrants for social media records and biological evidence before interviewing Brown.
According to prosecutors, Brown initially denied communicating with the victim through social media. However, after Detective McCann confronted him with evidence obtained through the investigation, Brown admitted to exchanging messages with the victim on multiple occasions and acknowledged engaging in sexual contact with the child.
First Assistant District Attorney Nathan Young credited the Children's Advocacy Center and law enforcement for their work in securing the conviction.
"We commend the Fannin County Children's Advocacy Center for all they do for the kids in our community," Young said. "Not only does the Children's Center help collect valuable evidence for prosecution, they also work tirelessly to help survivors with counseling and continued services long after the criminal proceedings have ended."
Young also praised Detective McCann and the district attorney's victim assistance staff.
"It takes a team of people to help ensure justice for child victims," Young said. "The excellent investigation done by Detective McCann and the lifetime protective order prepared by April Butner, Victim's Assistance Coordinator with the DA's office, make sure there is a just punishment for this defendant and a safety net for the victim for the rest of their life."
A protective order issued by the 336th District Court was approved against Brown in order to protect the victim.
