KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas - Three people, including two children, were killed late Sunday night after a disabled passenger car was struck by an 18-wheeler on U.S. Highway 80 east of Windmill Farms Boulevard, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Texas Highway Patrol troopers responded to the two-vehicle crash at approximately 11:35 p.m. on July 26.
A preliminary investigation found that a passenger car had become disabled in the right eastbound lane of U.S. 80. As an 18-wheeler approached the disabled vehicle, the truck driver was unable to avoid a collision and struck the rear of the car.
The impact caused the passenger vehicle to go over the concrete bridge railing.
The driver of the passenger car, a 38-year-old woman, and two passengers, a 14-year-old child and a 9-year-old child, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
