ATHENS, TX — A 37-year-old Eustace man who walked into a sheriff's office alongside members of his church to confess to abusing a young relative has been handed the maximum possible prison sentence, prosecutors announced.
Glenn Michael Baker was sentenced by 392nd District Court Judge R. Scott McKee to two consecutive 20-year prison terms for Indecency with a Child.
District Attorney Jenny Palmer represented the State and successfully secured a "stacked" sentencing order, meaning Baker must serve his entire first 20-year sentence before he even begins serving the second, resulting in a 40-year total term.
Disclosure to Mother Triggers Confession
According to court records, the underlying abuse occurred back in November 2019. The case finally came to light in May 2025 when a young relative courageously disclosed to her mother that Baker had subjected her to multiple instances of sexual touching five to six years prior.
Days later, on May 19, 2025, Baker went to the Henderson County Sheriff's Office accompanied by two members of his church congregation, where he provided a full confession to investigators.
He was immediately taken into custody and held on a $3.5 million bond until his sentencing hearing.
Defense Appeal for Leniency Rejected
During the formal sentencing proceedings, DA Palmer called Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse and Crimes Against Children Task Force Investigator Michael Massey to detail the severity of the offenses, ultimately asking the court to impose the absolute maximum penalty allowed under Texas law.
Baker's defense team called six character witnesses, including his employer, friends, and fellow church members, in an attempt to persuade the court to grant leniency.
Judge McKee rejected the defense's request, granting the State's motion to stack the maximum 20-year terms back-to-back.
