MABANK, Texas — The Mabank community is mourning the loss of Fire Marshal Charlie Woodard, who was struck and killed by a vehicle while assisting with traffic control following a local event Saturday night.
According to the Mabank Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on June 27 in the 700 block of West Mason Street.
Police said officers and members of Mabank Fire & Rescue were conducting traffic control operations after the event when a westbound vehicle struck Woodard.
Woodard received immediate medical care at the scene and was transported by ground ambulance to UT Health in Gun Barrel City.
Despite lifesaving efforts, he died a short time after arriving at the hospital.
The Texas Department of Public Safety responded to investigate the fatal crash and is working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
No additional information has been released as the investigation remains ongoing.
In a statement, the Mabank Police Department extended its condolences to Woodard's family, friends, and fellow first responders.
"Charlie's service and dedication to the citizens of Mabank will not be forgotten," the department said.
Officials also asked the public to keep Woodard's loved ones in their thoughts and prayers and to respect the family's privacy during this difficult time.
