DAINGERFIELD, Texas — Two Morris County jail employees were injured Monday morning after being assaulted by an inmate while preparing the inmate for transport to court, according to the Morris County Sheriff's Office.
The incident occurred on June 22, 2026, inside the Morris County Jail.
Sheriff Jack Martin said the inmate assaulted two jailers during preparations for a scheduled court transport.
Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene, and both employees were transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Authorities said the jailers suffered superficial injuries and were later released from the hospital.
"We are thankful that their injuries were not more serious and are proud of the professionalism displayed by our staff during this incident," Sheriff Martin said in a statement.
The sheriff's office also thanked the Daingerfield Police Department and LifeNet EMS for their quick response and assistance during the incident.
The inmate remains in custody, and investigators are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the assault.
Sheriff Martin said additional criminal charges will be pursued as appropriate following the completion of the investigation.
The Morris County Sheriff's Office asked the community to keep the injured employees and all law enforcement and corrections personnel in their thoughts as they continue serving the public.
The investigation remains ongoing.
