PANOLA COUNTY, Texas — An East Texas man was arrested Friday night after authorities say his sister jumped from a moving vehicle during an argument, leading to a pursuit and rollover crash near the Texas-Louisiana state line.
According to the Panola County Sheriff's Office, dispatchers received an open-line 911 call at approximately 10:30 p.m. on June 19, 2026. During the call, emergency operators could hear a male and female arguing in the background.
Investigators said the female caller told dispatchers she had jumped from a moving vehicle and suffered injuries.
The driver was identified as 40-year-old Napolean Cordell "Polie" Lockett of Beckville, TX.
Deputies, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper, Flatwoods Volunteer Fire Department personnel, and UT Health EMS responded to the area of Farm-to-Market Road 2517 near County Road 4702 after the caller's cellphone location was traced to the area near the Louisiana state line.
At approximately 10:50 p.m., Deputy Madison Davis and Sgt. Chris Hansen located Lockett's vehicle traveling on FM 2517 near County Road 470 and initiated a traffic stop.
Authorities said Lockett refused to stop and fled from law enforcement.
Investigators said Lockett turned onto FM 3359 and traveled back toward Louisiana before turning onto County Road 455, where the pursuit ended when his vehicle rolled over.
After removing Lockett from the wrecked vehicle, deputies discovered he was suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Authorities have not released details regarding how or when the gunshot wound occurred.
Lockett was arrested and charged with Evading Arrest with a Vehicle, Violation of Conditional Bond in a Family Violence Incident, and a Grand Jury Indictment for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
He was transported to a hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he was treated for what authorities described as a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
After being discharged from the hospital early Saturday morning, Lockett was booked into the Panola County Detention Center.
The female victim was transported to a hospital in Longview for treatment of injuries she sustained after jumping from the vehicle.
Criminal investigators responded to both the crash scene and the hospital as part of the investigation. Because portions of the incident occurred in Louisiana, the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office was notified and is assisting authorities.
The Texas Highway Patrol is investigating the rollover crash, and officials said additional charges are expected.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the findings will be submitted to the Panola County Criminal District Attorney's Office for review.
