Terrell SWAT Team Responds to Reported Hostage Situation, Suspect Found Hiding in Attic

TERRELL, Texas - A reported hostage situation in Terrell prompted a large police response Friday morning, including the activation of the Terrell Police Department SWAT Team, before officers determined no hostages or firearms were involved.

At approximately 7 a.m. on June 5, 2026, officers responded to a disturbance call at a residence in the 500 block of Greenwood Street.

According to police, the caller reported that an individual inside the home was holding two people at gunpoint.

Patrol officers quickly arrived and established a secure perimeter around the residence. Due to the nature of the report and the potential threat to public safety, the department activated its SWAT Team and deployed a K-9 unit to assist with maintaining the perimeter.

As a precaution, a portion of North State Highway 34 near Greenwood Street was temporarily closed while officers managed the situation.

Before SWAT personnel arrived, officers assigned to the perimeter detained one individual who exited the residence.

Upon arrival, SWAT officers developed an operational plan and began conducting callouts from an armored vehicle. Two additional occupants later exited the residence and were detained without incident.

As investigators gathered information, officers determined that there was no hostage situation and that no firearm was involved.

SWAT personnel subsequently entered the residence and located the suspect hiding in the attic.

The suspect, identified as 64-year-old Marvin Brown of Terrell, was taken into custody without incident.

Brown was transported to the Terrell City Jail, where he was booked on multiple outstanding warrants.

No injuries were reported during the incident.

The Terrell Police Department thanked residents for their patience during the temporary roadway closure and acknowledged the assistance of the Terrell Fire Department and CareFlite EMS, which staged nearby and remained available in the event medical assistance was needed.
