MARSHALL, Texas - A quick response by Marshall police officers led to the recovery of stolen property and the arrest of a suspect who was allegedly attempting to pawn a stolen weed trimmer.

According to the Marshall Police Department, officers responded at approximately 2:46 p.m. on May 29 to the Wingwood Terrace area after receiving a report that a weed trimmer had been stolen from a resident's driveway.

Investigators obtained surveillance footage from the victim's security camera and identified a vehicle believed to be connected to the theft. While following leads in the case, an officer checked local pawn shops and located the suspect vehicle parked at one of the businesses.

Police said the suspect was found inside the pawn shop attempting to pawn the stolen weed trimmer.

During the investigation, officers searched the vehicle and recovered a chainsaw that is also believed to be stolen. Authorities have not yet identified the owner of the chainsaw, and that portion of the investigation remains ongoing.

Jadaeilyn Damonei Bennett, 21, was arrested and charged with Possession of Stolen Property valued between $100 and $750. Officers also discovered Bennett had an outstanding parole violation warrant.

Bennett was transported to the Harrison County Jail.

The stolen weed trimmer was recovered and returned to its owner.

Marshall Police Chief Cliff Carruth praised the efforts of officers involved in the case.

“This case highlights the value of surveillance footage and the quick, proactive work of our patrol officers in recovering stolen property and holding offenders accountable,” Carruth said.

The Marshall Police Department also encouraged residents to secure lawn equipment and other valuable property, record serial numbers, and utilize security cameras to help deter theft and assist investigators when crimes occur.

The investigation into the recovered chainsaw remains active.
