DENISON, Texas - The Denison Police Department arrested a 31-year-old man Thursday night after a domestic disturbance escalated into a barricaded suspect situation in Denison.
Police said officers responded around 8 p.m. on May 21 to reports of multiple shots fired in the 500 block of East Monterey Street.
Investigators determined a domestic disturbance had occurred at the residence and that the male suspect fired multiple rounds in the backyard. Authorities said other occupants of the home left the area before the gunfire began.
The suspect was identified as 31-year-old Eric Pitts.
According to police, Pitts barricaded himself inside the residence and refused commands to surrender. Denison’s Special Response Team was activated and responded to the scene with assistance from neighboring law enforcement agencies.
Authorities said Pitts later surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
No injuries were reported, and police said there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation remains active.
The Denison Police Department thanked the Sherman Police Department and the Grayson County Sheriff's Office for assisting during the incident.
