TERRELL, Texas — A Florida man was arrested early Sunday after Terrell police discovered dozens of firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, and THC vape pens inside a U-Haul truck during a traffic stop, according to the Terrell Police Department.
Police said officers conducted the traffic stop around 1 a.m. on May 17, 2026, after observing a traffic violation involving a U-Haul rental truck.
During the investigation, the driver, identified only as a 47-year-old man from Wesley Chapel, Florida, allegedly admitted he was a convicted felon, possessed a firearm, and had multiple THC vape pens inside the vehicle.
Based on those statements, officers conducted a probable cause search of the truck.
Investigators said officers recovered:
- 27 firearms
- Approximately 5,000 rounds of ammunition
- About $4,400 in cash
Authorities said the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
He faces the following charges:
- Firearm Smuggling
- Possession of a Firearm by a Felon
- Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 2, Greater Than 4 Grams and Less Than 400 Grams
Officials said the investigation remains ongoing and no additional information has been released.
