SHERMAN, Texas — A 32-year-old man was arrested early Friday morning after police said he forced his way into an apartment, fled from officers, and assaulted an officer during the arrest.

According to the Sherman Police Department, officers responded around 2 a.m. on May 9, 2026, to The Parks on Taylor apartment complex in the 1300 block of West Taylor Street following reports of an assault.

When officers arrived, they learned that citizens at the scene had detained Ashraf Imad Abukhalaf after he allegedly forced entry into an apartment where he did not live.

Police said officers located Abukhalaf, but he fled on foot. Officers pursued him and were able to tackle him, according to authorities.

Investigators said Abukhalaf continued resisting arrest throughout the encounter and assaulted one of the arresting officers while also threatening to kill officers at the scene. He was eventually subdued and taken into custody.

Abukhalaf was booked into the Grayson County Jail on charges of Burglary of a Habitation, Evading Arrest or Detention, Resisting Arrest, Search or Transport, Assault on a Public Servant, and Obstruction or Retaliation.

Authorities said Abukhalaf is being held on a combined bond totaling $105,000.

Police said no citizens or officers suffered major or life-threatening injuries during the incident.
