Royse City Man, Former Dallas Police Sergeant, Sentenced for Selling Stolen Service Weapons

Thomas Fry

DALLAS, Texas — A former police sergeant has been sentenced to federal prison after admitting to stealing and selling department-issued firearms, officials announced.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas, 53-year-old Thomas Fry of Royse City was sentenced April 22, 2026, to 28 months in prison.

Fry was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Brantley Starr after pleading guilty to possession and sale of a stolen firearm.

Prosecutors said Fry, who was a sergeant with the Dallas Police Department at the time, admitted to stealing department-owned firearms and selling them to a pawn shop in Oklahoma in June and July 2022.

Officials said Fry was involved in three separate incidents involving stolen service weapons.

U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould said the case highlights the importance of accountability within law enforcement.

“This police officer violated his oath and the public’s trust when he chose to commit a crime,” Raybould said.

Brian Garner, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said the sentence sends a clear message that misconduct involving firearms will not be tolerated.

The investigation was conducted by the ATF and the Dallas Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Marty Basu prosecuted the case.
