CRANDALL, Texas — An 11-year-old boy was injured in a shooting Sunday evening at a playground in the Heartland community, according to the Crandall Police Department.
Officers responded around 7:27 p.m. on March 29, 2026, to the 3000 block of Fletcher Road in Kaufman County following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found an 11-year-old juvenile with a gunshot wound to the leg.
The child was treated at the scene by CareFlite and airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Dallas. Medical staff later advised the injury was not life-threatening, and the child is in stable condition.
A second 11-year-old juvenile was taken into custody and is believed to be the shooter.
Detectives said the incident appears to be isolated between the two juveniles. The shooting occurred at the playground of Opal Smith Elementary School, but officials said there is no ongoing threat to students or staff.
