WINNSBORO, Texas - A 37-year-old Winnsboro man, James Dale Collins III, is being held in the Wood County Jail on bonds totaling $300,000 following a grand jury indictment for multiple violent offenses. The charges stem from a series of domestic assaults involving a dating partner and the endangerment of a child.
Collins faces a total of five felony counts:
-
Aggravated Assault (Family Violence) causing serious bodily injury with a deadly weapon
-
Continuous Violence Against the Family
-
Three counts of Child Endangerment
Court documents detail a pattern of escalation throughout 2023 and 2025. In separate incidents, Collins is alleged to have burned a woman with a torch or flame and threatened her with a knife. Investigators reported that the physical violence was ongoing, with the victim being struck multiple times over a year-long period in 2023.
In at least one instance, the assault allegedly occurred in the presence of a child under the age of 15. Authorities noted that this created an immediate danger and a risk of serious mental harm to the minor. Collins and the victim were in a dating relationship at the time of the reported offenses.
