Rusk Police Launch Review Into Alleged Officer Misconduct During DWI Arrest

RUSK, Texas - The Rusk Police Department has launched an administrative review following an allegation of sexual misconduct involving one of its officers during a 2022 DWI arrest.

According to a statement released through department attorney Anthony J. King, the complaint stems from an incident on June 20, 2022, and prompted an immediate internal review in accordance with departmental policy and Texas law.

Officials said the review includes a thorough examination of all evidence tied to the arrest, including body-worn camera footage, dash camera video, incident reports, and other related documentation.

The department has also notified the appropriate prosecutorial authority to determine whether a criminal investigation should be pursued alongside the administrative review.

Due to the sensitive nature of the allegation, the identity of the complainant will remain confidential. The officer named in the complaint has been notified and is being handled under applicable state law, municipal employment procedures, and internal policy.

Police emphasized that the officer is entitled to due process while the investigation is ongoing.

Officials also noted that certain records may not be released at this time under provisions of the Texas Public Information Act, which allows agencies to withhold information related to confidential or active investigations.

The department stated the goal of the review is to determine the facts, ensure accountability where appropriate, and protect the rights of all parties involved.

No additional details have been released as the investigation remains active.
