Texas Rangers Investigating In-Custody Death at Harrison County Main Jail

HARRISON COUNTY, Texas — An investigation is underway after a 63-year-old inmate died early Tuesday morning following a medical emergency at the Harrison County Main Jail.

According to jail officials, staff were alerted around 12:54 a.m. on February 18, 2026, that an inmate was experiencing a medical emergency. Jailers and on-site medical personnel responded and located Lawrence Richard Siford in need of immediate medical attention.

The Harrison County Sheriff's Office requested assistance from the Marshall Fire Department, which transported Siford to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Marshall.

Officials said Siford suffered from chronic medical conditions and had been under medical watch at the jail. He had been prescribed oxygen, which was being provided by jail medical staff.

Siford was pronounced dead at the hospital at approximately 4:00 a.m.

In accordance with Texas law regarding in-custody deaths, the Texas Rangers have been notified and are conducting an independent investigation. At this time, authorities say no foul play is suspected.
