MIDWAY, Texas - Three men are dead and a woman remains hospitalized after a series of shootings Friday morning in Madison County that ended with a suspect’s death in custody, authorities said.
At approximately 7:50 a.m. February 13, 2026, deputies responded to an aggravated robbery at Fraley’s Food Store in Midway, Texas. Upon arrival, they found a female victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to St. Joseph Health Regional Hospital in critical condition. Investigators determined the suspect and the victim were known to each other and had previously been in a relationship.
The suspect fled in a stolen pickup truck. At approximately 8:19 a.m., Texas Department of Public Safety troopers spotted the vehicle traveling on FM 1119. After the driver failed to yield, a pursuit was initiated. Troopers executed a successful PIT maneuver, and the suspect was taken into custody by DPS and Madison County deputies and transported to the Madison County Jail.
At approximately 9:10 a.m., during the jail intake process, the suspect became unresponsive. Jail staff and EMS personnel began lifesaving measures, but the suspect was pronounced deceased at the facility. The Texas Rangers were notified and are conducting an independent investigation into the in-custody death.
While authorities were managing the earlier incidents, the Sheriff’s Office received a separate report at approximately 10:03 a.m. of a deceased individual on FM 2346. Deputies located a male with multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators later linked the suspect from the earlier robbery and pursuit to that homicide.
At approximately 1:11 p.m., deputies discovered a second deceased male with apparent gunshot wounds in the same area. Investigators have also connected that homicide to the same suspect.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office, working alongside the Texas Rangers, is investigating all four scenes. No additional identifying information has been released pending further investigation.
