Texas Attorney General Investigates Proposed Development in Kaufman County Amid Sharia City Claims

KAUFMAN COUNTY, TX - Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has launched an investigation into a proposed large-scale development in Kaufman County following public concerns that the project could be intended as a so-called “sharia city.”

Public reports indicate that SEE Holding, a Dubai-based development company, through a U.S. subsidiary working in connection with Kaufman Solar LLC, has acquired thousands of acres of land near Kaufman, Texas. The development has been described as a “sustainable city” project. Some reports have suggested that up to 20,000 foreign nationals could potentially relocate to the area as part of the development.

Concerns have been raised by some Texans that the project could be structured in a way that conflicts with state or federal law. However, no official determination has been made regarding the legality or intended governance structure of the proposed community.

As part of the investigation, the Attorney General’s Office has issued formal Requests to Examine to SEE Holding and Kaufman Solar LLC. The requests seek information about:

  • Communications with local, school, county, and state officials

  • The relationship between the two companies

  • Details regarding land acquisition and development plans in Texas

In a statement, Paxton said his office would not allow any development that violates Texas law and emphasized that all individuals and entities operating in the state must comply with U.S. and Texas legal standards.

The investigation is ongoing. No findings of wrongdoing have been announced at this time.
