Arkansas Man Killed While Crossing I-30 Frontage Road After Flat Tire Stop

HOPKINS COUNTY, Texas - A 71-year-old Arkansas man was killed Monday evening after being struck by a pickup truck while attempting to cross a frontage road near Interstate 30, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Troopers were called to the scene around 6:45 p.m. on January 19, 2026, to investigate an auto-pedestrian fatality on the Interstate 30 south frontage road near the 118-mile marker eastbound.

Preliminary information indicates a woman had stopped on the interstate because of a flat tire. Family members arrived to assist and parked along the eastbound barrow ditch of the south frontage road. While carrying a spare tire and attempting to cross the roadway, 71-year-old Michael Wayne King of Mena, Arkansas, was struck by a westbound pickup traveling on the frontage road.

King was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation, and no additional details have been released at this time.
