Two Arrested After Holiday Traffic Stop Uncovers Marijuana, Children Riding Unrestrained in Polk County

POLK COUNTY, TX - Two people were arrested following a holiday traffic stop in Polk County after narcotics investigators discovered marijuana, suspected drug packaging materials, and unsafe conditions involving two young children.

On December 31, 2025, investigators with the Polk County Narcotics Division were conducting traffic enforcement along U.S. Highway 59 North in the Leggett area due to increased New Year’s holiday traffic. During patrol, investigators observed a white Ford Fusion commit a traffic violation and attempted to initiate a stop.

As investigators followed the vehicle, they observed both occupants reaching toward the center and back floorboard, behavior consistent with attempting to conceal contraband. Once the vehicle stopped, investigators detected the odor of freshly smoked marijuana coming from inside.

The female passenger, identified as Daijah Brown of Monroe, Louisiana, handed investigators a package of marijuana and admitted that she and the driver had recently smoked inside the vehicle. During the encounter, investigators also noticed two children, ages 5 and 2, seated in the backseat. One child was improperly secured, and the other was not in a child safety seat at all.

The driver was identified as Lamondre Harrell, also of Monroe, Louisiana. Investigators determined Harrell did not have a valid driver’s license, the vehicle’s registration had expired in 2024, and the vehicle was uninsured. When Harrell exited the vehicle, marijuana was observed on his clothing, and he was found to be carrying a large amount of U.S. currency.

As part of a probable cause search, Brown attempted to remove a diaper bag from the vehicle but then informed investigators that additional marijuana was inside. A search of the diaper bag revealed five more packages of marijuana along with pre-weighed amounts consistent with distribution. Harrell later admitted the marijuana was purchased in Houston and belonged to both occupants.

In total, approximately 3.5 ounces of high-grade marijuana were recovered.

Harrell and Brown were both arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana over 2 ounces under 4 ounces and Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence. Harrell was transported to the Polk County Jail without incident. Brown and her children were taken to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, where the children were released to a responsible family member before Brown was booked into jail.

In a joint statement, Sheriff Byron Lyons and Chief Anthony Lowrie emphasized the seriousness of the situation, noting the risks posed when illegal drugs are transported with children present. Authorities say enforcement efforts will continue to focus on roadway safety and protecting vulnerable individuals.
