Teen Safely Rescued After Being Separated While Kayaking on Cedar Creek Lake

Gun Barrel City, TX – On Sunday, December 29, 2025, at approximately 5:49 p.m., the Gun Barrel City Fire Department responded to a report of a 16-year-old male who had become separated from his family while kayaking on Cedar Creek Lake. The juvenile, wearing a life jacket, was last seen between Lou Lou’s and Bird Island.

A coordinated search was immediately launched, involving Tool Fire Department, Seven Points Fire Department, Eustace Fire Department, and Long Cove Fire Department, including specialized dive teams.

At approximately 8:14 p.m., Rescue Boat 1 from Gun Barrel City Fire Department located the juvenile near Bird Island. He was safely brought aboard and transported to the Tom Finley Park boat ramp, where he was reunited with his father. Thankfully, the teen was unharmed.

Fire officials expressed gratitude to all assisting agencies for their rapid response and teamwork. They also emphasized the importance of wearing life jackets and maintaining visual contact while on the water.
