Kilgore Police Successfully Resolve Disturbance Involving Child and Reported Firearm

Kilgore, TX - The Kilgore Police Department has released an update after officers responded to a tense disturbance call during the lunch hour on Post Oak Road in the far north part of the city.

When officers arrived, they met with the caller a short distance from the residence. A second individual was believed to be inside the home, possibly armed with a rifle, and a small child was also reported to be present. Out of caution, KPD requested the assistance of their trained negotiator, Officer Torres.

Officer Torres was able to establish communication with the individual inside and maintain a calm, constructive conversation. After a period of negotiation, the resident came out of the home and safely handed the child to a KPD supervisor. No injuries were reported.

The scene has since been cleared, and investigators are working to piece together the circumstances leading up to the incident. Kilgore Police expressed their appreciation to the Kilgore College Police Department for helping block a roadway and to DPS Investigators for responding to assist.

The department also offered a reminder as the holiday season begins. Stress and tension can rise during this time of year, and officers encouraged anyone feeling overwhelmed to take a moment to step back, prioritize calm, and focus on de-escalation when conflicts arise.

Everyone involved in the incident is safe, and the investigation remains ongoing.
