Caddo Mounds to Host Annual Caddo Culture Day Celebrating Native Heritage and Tradition

ALTO, Texas - The Caddo Mounds State Historic Site in East Texas is hosting its annual Caddo Culture Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15. This free, family-friendly event offers a unique opportunity to explore and experience the traditions, art, and history of the Caddo people.

Caddo Mounds State Historic Site has planned engaging activities, including traditional storytelling, cultural demonstrations, and hands-on workshops that allow children and families to learn more about the Caddo people, some of Texas’ earliest settlers.

Activities include:

  • Traditional Caddo cooking with Caddo Citizen Chase Kahwinhut Earles
  • Stickball exhibition and hands-on learning opportunities with a morning session from 10-11:30 a.m. and an afternoon session from 1-2:30 p.m. All are welcome to participate.
  • Caddo language scavenger hunt with Caddo Citizen Becky Quinlan
  • Hands-on weaving activities with Caddo Citizen Jackie Bullard
  • Caddo regalia and beading display and demonstrations with Caddo Citizen Yonavea Hawkins

Admission to Caddo Culture Day is free.

Donations will be accepted in support of Friends of Caddo Mounds, Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides support for the operations, maintenance, and educational programs at the site. Caddo Mounds is located at 1649 State Highway 21 West, Alto, Texas. The site is located 6 miles west of Alto, and approximately 30 minutes from Lufkin and Nacogdoches.
