LINDALE, TX – At approximately 7:54 a.m. on Tuesday, the Lindale Fire Department responded to a confirmed residential structure fire in the 13000 block of County Road 495.
Lindale Fire crews, including Engine 1, Engine 2, Truck 1, Tender 2, and Brush 3, arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the home. Firefighters made a fast and aggressive interior attack to stop the fire’s spread, but due to rapid fire growth and worsening conditions, command ordered all crews to evacuate and transition to a defensive strategy.
Limited water supply initially posed challenges, prompting multiple tenders to assist until a nearby hydrant was located to sustain operations.
During overhaul, a mayday was declared after a firefighter from Smith County ESD 2 was struck by a falling ceiling. The mayday was quickly cleared, and the firefighter was evaluated on scene by EMS with no serious injuries reported.
An investigation by the Smith County Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire originated in the area of the chimney or fireplace.
Mutual aid assistance was provided by Smith County ESD 2 with Engine 172, Engine 122, Tender 121, Captain 2, Battalion Chief 2, Chief 2, and Chief 3.
The Lindale Fire Department expressed appreciation to Smith County ESD 2 for their partnership and continued support.
