On Friday, October 24, 2025, the Brenham Police Department’s Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) executed a search warrant at a residence in the 9600 block of Old Independence Road as part of an ongoing narcotics investigation. The operation targeted Clay Walker Schumpert, who had been identified as a local marijuana distributor.
Schumpert was taken into custody without incident on an active arrest warrant for Delivery of Marijuana. During the search, investigators seized a significant quantity of illegal substances and related paraphernalia, including approximately 20.8 ounces of marijuana, 43.54 grams of marijuana kief, 3 grams of THC oil, and 2.3 grams of Psilocybin mushrooms. Six live marijuana plants were also recovered, along with digital scales, packaging materials, grinders, and U.S. currency believed to be proceeds from drug sales.
Investigators discovered two indoor marijuana grow tents inside the residence and a large shipping container on the property being converted into a marijuana grow operation.
As a result of the investigation, Schumpert was charged with multiple offenses in addition to his existing warrant, including:

Possession of a Controlled Substance PG 2 (1 gram to 4 grams) – Third Degree Felony
