On October 9, 2025, the Texas Department of Public Safety recognized several personnel during the Public Safety Commission’s October meeting at DPS Headquarters in Austin. PSC Chairman Steven P. Mach, Nelda Luce Blair, Dan Hord, Larry Long, Steven Stodghill, and DPS Colonel Freeman F. Martin presented two Director’s Citations and four Lifesaving Awards.
Among the honorees, Corporal Andrew Faglie of Canton received a Lifesaving Award for his quick and decisive actions on January 28, 2025. While at the Canton Highway Patrol Office, Corporal Faglie responded immediately after hearing screams from the driver license side of the office. A staff member reported a 17-month-old baby boy was choking.
Observing the child face up with dark blue lips, Corporal Faglie took swift action, placing the infant face down and delivering back thrusts to clear the airway. The child began breathing and crying again, though still congested, and Corporal Faglie continued to assist until EMS arrived. The child was then transported safely to a local Children’s Hospital.
Colonel Martin praised the heroism of DPS personnel, stating, “Their stories inspire us, and we thank them for all they do – every day – as they make a difference in the lives of so many Texans.” Corporal Faglie’s prompt and skilled intervention exemplifies the life-saving impact DPS officers have in communities across Texas.
