ATHENS, Texas—The Athens Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees is currently deciding whether to accept the resignation of high school band director Nicholas Bartlett Durham after his arrest earlier this month on a methamphetamine charge.
Durham, 45, who had served as band director for two years, was arrested on September 3, 2025, after Henderson County Sheriff’s Office deputies searched his apartment in Athens. According to arrest records, he gave investigators two bongs containing methamphetamine at the time.
The school's superintendent confirmed that Durham submitted his resignation letter following his arrest. His bond was set at $10,000. The school board is currently in executive session discussing the matter.
