Texarkana Man Arrested After Barricading Himself Following Assault on Parents

Michael Casey Dodson

TEXARKANA, Texas — On August 7, 2025, the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office responded to 9200 Danube Avenue for a reported assault. Deputies found the suspect, identified as 50-year-old Michael Casey Dodson, outside the residence.

Deputies, who were familiar with Dodson from previous calls to the home, reported that he fled inside upon their arrival, barricading himself on the second floor. The assault victims were identified as Dodson’s parents, and authorities suspected he was armed with a handgun.

Negotiators from the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Texarkana, Texas Police Department attempted to persuade Dodson to surrender, but he refused. The Texarkana Police SWAT team deployed a chemical agent into the barricaded area. Dodson then attempted to escape into the attic before falling through the first-floor ceiling, where he was taken into custody.

Dodson was booked into the Bowie County Jail on two counts of Injury to an Elderly Individual–Family Violence and one count of Interference with an Emergency Call. Bond has not yet been set.

The Bowie County Sheriff’s Office credited assistance from the Nash Police Department, Hooks Police Department, Precinct 1 Constable, Texas DPS, and Texarkana Police for helping bring the incident to a safe resolution.
