JACKSONVILLE, TX – The Jacksonville Police Department has arrested Jayden Duane Hopson, 23, who has a criminal history including murder and aggravated robbery charges, in connection with the theft of an AK-47-style pistol.
On Tuesday, August 5, at approximately 7:47 a.m., officers responded to a reported burglary where the pistol was stolen. Surveillance footage identified Hopson as the suspect. Due to his history, the Cherokee County Regional Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, which includes personnel from the Jacksonville Police Department, Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, and Bullard Police Department, was activated.
After securing an arrest warrant for Burglary of a Habitation, the regional SWAT team, with assistance from the Henderson County Sheriff's Office SWAT team, executed the warrant at Hopson's residence at 1010 Border Street at 1:36 p.m. Hopson was taken into custody without incident.
Officers located and recovered the stolen firearm during a search of the residence. Four other occupants of the home were also detained for questioning.
The investigation remains active, and additional charges may be pending. The Jacksonville Police Department thanked the agencies involved for their teamwork in bringing the operation to a safe conclusion.
