NEWTON COUNTY, TX – A theft suspect is in custody after being spotted walking along a rural road two days after a resident reported stolen items and pursued the thief into nearby woods.
On Tuesday, July 29, 2025, the Newton County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a resident in the 11000 block of FM 1416 in the Biloxi Community. The caller reported that his push mower, air compressor, and weed eater had been stolen and that he was actively chasing the suspect. The pursuit led into a hunting club area where the resident lost sight of the suspect.
Deputies responded and began investigating the case. Through their investigation, deputies identified Derrick Holman as the suspect. Holman was already wanted in Newton County for Criminal Trespassing and in Orange County for Bond Forfeiture.
On the morning of Thursday, July 31, 2025, Newton County Sheriff Robert Havard spotted Holman walking along County Road 4570. Holman was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Newton County Jail on the outstanding warrants.
Later that day, deputies obtained and executed a search warrant at Holman’s residence. They recovered the stolen push mower and air compressor hose.
In addition to the previous warrants, Holman now faces an additional charge of Theft of Property.
