SACHSE, TX — A 21-year-old man is in custody after allegedly shooting and killing his roommate during a disturbance at a home in Sachse early Saturday morning.
At approximately 4:37 a.m. on July 19, 2025, officers with the Sachse Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a disturbance in the 2200 block of Bent Oak Trail, located in Dallas County. When officers arrived, they discovered the body of a man inside the residence who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
The victim has been identified as 37-year-old Derrick Spencer Moore, a resident of the home. Police say Moore was shot during an altercation with his roommate, 21-year-old Rick Jones.
Jones was taken into custody without incident at the scene. He was transported to the Rowlett Jail, where he was booked on a charge of Murder. Authorities confirmed that Jones was out on bond for a prior Theft charge at the time of the shooting.
As of Sunday, Jones remains in custody on a $1 million bond. The investigation remains active, though police say there is no ongoing threat to the public.
