On Tuesday, July 2, 2025, at approximately 12:21 a.m., Jasper County Sheriff’s Deputy Gray responded to a call for an assault in progress at 1206 FM 252 involving a male and female.
Upon arrival, both individuals were detained. The suspect, Westen Edward Bertrand, 21, of Jasper, admitted to hitting his girlfriend in the arm, pushing her against a wall, throwing her to the ground, and kicking her after she dropped his PlayStation controller while he was playing a video game.
Deputy Gray observed visible redness on the victim’s arm and thigh, consistent with the reported assault.
Bertrand was arrested and charged with Assault Causes Bodily Injury to a Family/Household Member, a Class A Misdemeanor. He was transported to the Jasper County Jail.
