Louisiana Man Sentenced to Over 4 Years in Federal Prison for Firearm Possession in East Texas

A Bourg, Louisiana man has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for illegally possessing firearms in the Eastern District of Texas, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs.

Brad Michael Broussard, 44, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone on July 1, 2025.

According to court records, on January 1, 2024, Broussard was stopped by law enforcement in Shelby County after striking several construction barrels while driving on the highway. During the stop, officers smelled marijuana and conducted a search of the vehicle, which revealed four firearms, including a pistol with a homemade silencer.

Broussard was also found in possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms, marijuana, prescription pills, a methamphetamine pipe, and drug paraphernalia.

Further investigation revealed that Broussard has five prior felony convictions for burglary, making it illegal for him to possess firearms or ammunition under federal law.

The case was investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Donald S. Carter.
