On Friday, June 27, 2025, at approximately 8:02 p.m., Balch Springs Police responded to a reported shooting in the 14300 block of Briarcrest Drive. Officers were informed that one individual had been shot and the suspect had fled the scene on foot.
Responding officers quickly located and arrested 50-year-old Derrick Chatman without incident.
The victim, identified as 28-year-old Gregory Hamilton Jr., sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Authorities confirmed that Chatman was known to the victim.
Chatman has been charged with Murder and is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $250,000 bond. The investigation remains ongoing.
