Annaleigh Andrews, a 24-year-old former teacher at McMichael Middle School in Nacogdoches, has been arrested on Thursday and booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail on multiple charges related to an alleged inappropriate relationship with a student.
Andrews faces a total of twelve charges, including three counts of improper relationship between educator and student, three counts of sexual assault of a child, three counts of trafficking a child to engage in sexual conduct, and three counts of enticing a child with intent to commit a felony.
The arrest was made following an investigation that began with a social media post indicating potential misconduct involving a former student. Nacogdoches Police Department launched an inquiry into the matter after being informed of the post.
In a statement released on Friday morning, Nacogdoches ISD officials confirmed that Andrews had resigned earlier in the month, prior to the allegations coming to light, and is no longer employed by the district. The resignation, according to the arrest affidavit, was submitted by Andrews with the intention of pursuing teaching opportunities in foreign countries. The district was unaware of the social media posts until Wednesday when they were alerted by the Nacogdoches Police Department.
"The safety and welfare of all students is the overriding priority of the district. Upon learning of this allegation, NISD immediately contacted law enforcement. The district appreciates those who brought the information forward and encourages continued reporting by others when a concern exists regarding the health or safety of our NISD student population," the Nacogdoches ISD statement read.
