A Panola County man, James Dwight Shadwick, 42, of DeBerry, was sentenced to 18 months in a state jail Tuesday after pleading guilty to criminally negligent homicide in connection with a fatal rollover crash that occurred in Rusk County in October 2021.
According to a crash report, Shadwick was driving west on State Highway 64 when he swerved to avoid an unknown animal in the roadway. This action caused his vehicle to enter the oncoming lane, striking another vehicle. The impact led to the second vehicle rolling multiple times, ejecting its passenger.
The passenger was identified as Jorden Lynn Wilson. Wilson was transported to a hospital but later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Shadwick is currently booked into the Rusk County Jail following his sentencing.
