A road rage altercation on I-30 in Sulphur Springs on Sunday, June 15, led to the arrest of a Dallas man who allegedly displayed a handgun to occupants of another vehicle.
Hopkins County deputies responded to a report that a driver had pulled a gun on another motorist on I-30. Upon arrival, they located the victims, who described the suspect and vehicle.
Their investigation revealed that Jared Cole Ray, 41, of Dallas, was involved in a road rage incident on the eastbound Service Road near League Street. During the confrontation, Ray reportedly displayed a handgun towards the occupants of another vehicle.
Based on the description provided, deputies quickly located Ray, stopped his vehicle, and took him into custody without further incident. During questioning, Ray admitted to showing the victims his gun. He stated he had retrieved the weapon from his glove compartment after being cut off in traffic and claimed the other vehicle then began following him, prompting his actions.
The handgun was recovered from Ray's vehicle. He was arrested and charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. No injuries were reported in the incident.
