On the night of Thursday, May 29, 2025, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) deputies arrested 58-year-old Gregory Vaughn following reports that he fired a gun in an attempt to provoke a neighbor into a violent confrontation.
Deputies were dispatched to a rural area of the county, near Denison, after a concerned resident reported that his neighbor, recently released from prison, was firing a weapon in his backyard. The caller told dispatchers that when he asked Vaughn to calm down, the situation escalated. Vaughn allegedly fired multiple additional rounds and sent a series of hostile messages.
Due to the suspect’s known criminal background and concerns over possible intoxication, deputies coordinated a cautious response. Vaughn, a convicted felon who is legally prohibited from possessing firearms, was stopped by deputies as he attempted to leave the residence in a vehicle.
Members of the GCSO Criminal Investigations Division obtained and executed a search warrant for Vaughn’s home. Inside, they recovered 11 firearms, a large quantity of ammunition, and under two ounces of marijuana.
Gregory Vaughn was arrested and transported to the Grayson County Jail. Charges are pending related to unlawful possession of firearms by a felon, marijuana possession, and potential further offenses related to the attempted provocation. Vaughn remains in custody.
