Repeat Offender Sentenced to 12 Years for Drug Possession, Bail Jumping in Henderson County

Dock Anthony Berry

Dock Anthony Berry, 34, has been sentenced to 12 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for Bail Jumping and Failure to Appear, as well as Possession of a Controlled Substance. The sentence was handed down last week in 392nd District Judge R. Scott McKee's courtroom. Assistant District Attorney Christian Simpson represented the State.

The charges stem from an incident on June 18, 2024, when Henderson County Sheriff's Office Investigators Jonathan Daille and Jonathan Barrios observed a traffic violation on Poolside Drive. During a traffic stop, they identified the driver as Dock Berry, an individual known to them from prior encounters. Investigators detected a strong odor of marijuana and subsequently located a plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance, along with another baggie containing less than a gram of methamphetamine. Investigator Daille also found a syringe and a plastic contact lens container holding one gram of liquid methamphetamine.

Berry's failure to appear for his court date related to this offense resulted in the additional felony charge of Bail Jumping and Failure to Appear.

Berry's punishment was enhanced due to his extensive criminal history. This includes previous prison sentences for Possession of a Controlled Substance from 2021 in Henderson County and Evading Arrest or Detention with a vehicle in 2015 from Anderson County. He also had a previous state jail sentence for Possession of a Controlled Substance, as well as convictions for Theft of Property and Criminal Trespass.
