A Sherman father has been arrested and charged with criminally negligent homicide in connection with the death of his 17-year-old daughter earlier this year. Authorities allege that Michael John Cain, 35, provided his daughter, Patience Cain, with alcoholic beverages and consumed them with her hours before her death.

On January 10, 2025, the Sherman Police Department and Sherman Fire Department responded to a call in the 800-block of North Sam Rayburn Freeway regarding an unresponsive 17-year-old female. The female, identified as Patience Cain, was transported to a local hospital but was later pronounced deceased.

An extensive investigation, including a detailed medical examination, determined that Patience Cain died as a result of acute ethanol toxicity.

An arrest warrant was subsequently obtained for Michael Cain. He was arrested on the warrant this week and is currently being held in the Grayson County Jail. His bond was set at $100,000.

A gofundme page was setup by Patience's Mom for her funeral costs.

The investigation remains ongoing.
