A young child has tragically died after being accidentally run over by a family member in the 400 block of East Hickory Street in Kaufman.
The City of Kaufman Police and Fire Departments responded to reports of a traumatic injury. Upon arrival, emergency personnel learned that family members had already transported the child to Texas Health Kaufman Hospital. Despite the efforts of emergency staff, the child succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased in the hospital's emergency room.
Officers secured the scene of the incident, while additional officers and detectives responded to both the scene and the hospital to initiate an investigation. Authorities are currently gathering evidence, and the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking event remain under active review.
"This is an incredibly traumatic and heartbreaking incident for everyone involved," stated a release from the City of Kaufman. "Our hearts go out to the loved ones of this young child, and we ask the community to keep them in their thoughts during this difficult time."
