Deborah Rushing and Matthew Eddington

Hawkins Mayor Deborah Lynn Rushing, 46, was booked into the Wood County Jail on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, on a charge of tampering with a governmental record. Her bond has been set at $10,000. The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation.

Also arrested on the same charge was 51-year-old Matthew Todd Eddington, also of Hawkins. His bond was likewise set at $10,000.

Eddington previously turned himself in to the Wood County Jail in January 2025 on a separate warrant accusing him of posting Hawkins City Councilwoman Eleta Taylor’s personal cellphone number on Facebook. He later admitted to posting the numbers of multiple council members.

Eddington was also involved in a confrontation with Hawkins Police Department Officer Dave Morris during a city council meeting held on November 22, 2024.

No additional details about the tampering charge have been released at this time.
