In the early morning hours of Sunday, May 19, 2025, the Rusk County Sheriff's Office received a call reporting a burglary of a habitation in progress.
Shift "B" Deputies quickly arrived at the scene and heard screaming from inside the residence. Deputies were forced to make entry into the home, where they discovered the suspect, Christopher Lee Heard, had broken into the residence and was assaulting the female resident with a cooking pan.
Due to their rapid response, deputies were able to take Heard into custody at the scene. He has been charged with Burglary of a Habitation with the Intent to Commit a Felony (Aggravated Assault).
The victim was transported by ambulance to a Tyler hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Justice of the Peace #5 Jana Enloe set Heard's bond at $100,000.
