Repeat Offender Sentenced to 10 Years for High-Speed Motorcycle Evasion in Henderson County

Henry Lee Hyde, II

Henry Lee Hyde, II was sentenced last week to 10 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice by 3rd District Court Judge Mark Calhoon. The sentence was for the 3rd-degree felony offense of Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle. Assistant District Attorney Jeff Herrington represented the State in the case.

The incident occurred on August 10, 2024, when Henderson County Sheriff's Office Deputy Anthony Nardone attempted a traffic stop on a blue motorcycle in the 300 block of West Main Street in Gun Barrel City for a traffic violation. After Deputy Nardone activated his emergency lights and siren, the motorcycle accelerated rapidly, heading towards Mabank.

Deputy Nardone was assisted in the pursuit by Gun Barrel City Police, who also witnessed the motorcycle speeding, and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Hyde, the driver of the motorcycle, drove on the wrong side of the road and reached speeds exceeding 140 miles per hour before attempting to drive on the grassy shoulder of Farm to Market Road 316, where he wrecked. Following the crash, Hyde attempted to flee on foot.

At the time of the offense, Hyde had an outstanding warrant from Kaufman County for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. His criminal history includes a prior felony conviction for Robbery in 2017, for which he served prison time, as well as prior misdemeanor convictions for theft and criminal trespass.
