On May 17, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Rusk County dispatch received a 911 call from an 11-year-old boy who reported that his mother believed he was the devil and was actively burning the family dogs at their residence on Highway 64.
Minutes later, at 1:04 p.m., a second call was placed by a neighbor at an adjacent address reporting that a Hispanic female had arrived at their home with blood on her hands, claiming her parents had been killed.
Rusk County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) deputies arrived at 6101 Highway 64 by 1:08 p.m. and detained 32-year-old Veronica Loredo. At the time of her detainment, Loredo was found in control of four juveniles, ranging in age from 1 to 11 years old, all of whom were inside a vehicle she was operating.
Deputies investigating the scene discovered the burned remains of dogs in an active fire in front of the Loredo residence.
Loredo was arrested and charged with two felony counts of Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals and four counts of Endangering a Child. Justice of the Peace Precinct 5 set her total bond at $400,000.
The investigation remains ongoing.
