Man Shot in Dispute Over Child in Polk County; Suspect at Large

The Corrigan Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred Sunday, May 18, 2025, at approximately 11:56 a.m. at the Corrigan Square Apartments located at 116 Bluebonnet Circle.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire and discovered that one male victim had already been transported to the hospital by personal vehicle. The victim was later taken to Houston for further treatment and is reported to be in stable condition. His identity is being withheld.

Preliminary information suggests the shooting resulted from a dispute between two men over how the victim’s son was treated. The suspect fled the scene in a 2014 white Volkswagen Passat and remains at large.

The suspect has been identified as 32-year-old Darius Deshaun Hawthorne of Woodville. He is described as a bald Black male, approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, and is a known felon. Authorities consider him armed and dangerous.
