Wesley Lyon, the newly elected Mayor of Mount Pleasant, will be sworn into office on Wednesday. Lyon, who defeated incumbent Mayor Tracy Craig Sr. in the May 3rd election, has expressed his primary goal as restoring public trust in the city government.
"The biggest thing I want is for the citizens to trust the government again," Lyon stated. "If something needs to be said or something needs to be done, then I’m going to say it, or I’m going to do it."
Lyon's election comes at a time of significant legal challenges for the outgoing administration. Incumbent Mayor Tracy Craig Sr., along with the city manager and city council members, face charges related to travel reimbursement issues. Craig, however, maintains his innocence, stating, "I had no wrongdoing, so I’m not really concerned with it."
The officials have been indicted by a Titus County grand jury and are currently under investigation by the Texas Rangers. The swearing-in ceremony for Mayor Lyon marks a new chapter for the city, as it navigates these legal complexities.
