On Thursday, May 8, 2025, the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Unit conducted a traffic stop on a white 2024 Volkswagen Jetta traveling northbound on US-59 in Cleveland, Liberty County, Texas, due to a traffic violation.
During the stop, deputies developed a belief that the driver, identified as 51-year-old Byron Donsha Adams of Houston, was involved in criminal activity and requested consent to search his vehicle. Adams declined the request, prompting deputies to deploy a narcotic-trained K9 unit on the vehicle.
The K9 alerted positively to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle, leading deputies to conduct a probable cause search. Inside the trunk, deputies discovered two cloth sacks containing multiple kilograms of suspected cocaine. A total of seven kilograms, weighing approximately 19 pounds, was recovered.
Adams was arrested and transported to the Liberty County Jail. He has been charged with Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance PG1 over 400 grams, a first-degree felony.
