A 62-year-old Crockett man currently on parole until 2084 was arrested Tuesday night after leading police on a high-speed vehicle pursuit through residential neighborhoods and discarding drugs and a firearm during the chase.
At approximately 8:30 p.m. on April 30, 2025, a patrol officer attempted to stop a Cadillac sedan for a traffic violation on East Goliad Avenue near the downtown square. The driver, identified as Rickie Lane Gilmore, refused to pull over, initiating a vehicle pursuit.
Gilmore sped through residential streets, drove through private yards, and nearly lost control of the vehicle multiple times. During the pursuit, officers observed him throwing bags of suspected crack cocaine out of the car.
The chase ended when Gilmore’s vehicle became disabled from overheating. He was taken into custody without further incident.
A large quantity of crack cocaine was found inside Gilmore’s vehicle, and additional narcotics were recovered along the roadside. Gilmore later admitted to discarding a firearm during the incident; however, the gun was not recovered and is believed to have been picked up by an unknown individual before officers could arrive.
Gilmore was charged with:
-
Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle – 3rd Degree Felony
-
Tampering with Evidence – 3rd Degree Felony
-
Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 (4–400 Grams) – 2nd Degree Felony
-
Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon by a Felon – 2nd Degree Felony
He remains in the Houston County Jail on a $60,000 bond set by Justice of the Peace Ronnie Jordan. The Houston County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit.
