The Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) has been actively investigating child abuse cases during April, which is Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness month. Authorities emphasize that children are often abused by individuals close to them.
Throughout April, MPPD has taken five reports involving Sexual Assault of a Child, Indecency with a Child, and Child Grooming. As a result of these investigations, three arrests have been made.
On April 8th, 45-year-old Martin Urista was arrested and charged with Indecency with a Child, Child Grooming, and Delivery of Marijuana to a Minor.
On April 24th, 47-year-old Juan Malpica Hernandez was arrested and charged with Child Grooming.
The third offender arrested is a juvenile, charged with Sexual Assault of a Child and Possession of Child Pornography.
Urista and Hernandez are currently being held at the Titus County Jail. MPPD Criminal Investigations is continuing to investigate these cases, and additional charges may be filed.
